The eviction of Henri Langlois from the French Cinematheque management, his triomphant reinstatement thanks to the support of filmmakers, the breaking off of the 1968's Cannes Film festival followed by the Cinema states general in Suresnes, are the most memorable stages that led tothe Film Directors' Guild foundation.
The following year, its directors founded the Directors' Fortnight in the margin of the official Cannes Film Festival. Its 43rd edition will take place in 2011.
