Mission

Founded in 1968, the Film Directors' Guild aims at improving and strengthening directors professional representation.

Our organization gathers today more than 200 filmmakers from all walks of life – short films, feature films, fiction and documentary directors alike.

The Film Directors' Guild is committed to defend creation's artistic, moral, professional and economic freedom, and thus participate in the elaboration and evolution of cinema structures.

We make a stand :

• On defending and promoting cinematographic creation's diversity,
• On safeguarding a regulated economy founded on creation's support, and art and cinematographic culture distribution.

The Film Directors' Guild takes part in negotiations and reflections concerning the cinematographic sector. Actively involved in the professionnal and official authorities, The Film Directors' Guild is represented in the CNC committees (the public administrative organization which regulates, supports, promotes and preserves the cinema and audiovisual sectors in France), the boards of Unifrance (which promotes French cinema worldwide) and the Cannes International Film Festival, as well as in several professional organizations (BLOC – gathering of independent professional organizations of the cinematographic sector, ROC – short films organizations, ROD – documentary organizations, BLAC – cultural initiatives organizations).

Besides its creation's defense activities, the Film Directors' Guild has founded two festivals organized under its aegis : the Directors' Fortnight in Cannes, and the European Medium-lenth Film Meetings.
